The township clerk is clerk of the Town Board of Trustees and is keeper of all records of the township. The clerk is required to keep accurate records of all meetings of the town board and to maintain records of executive sessions of the board. The clerk is the local election authority and is responsible for accepting petitions concerning local elections and/or referendums. The town clerk is responsible for publishing or posting certain specific notices, including notices for the township highway department. The next scheduled election is March 20, 2012, which is the presidential primary. Any change of address requires new voter registration, which can be done at the Township office Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Two forms of identification are required– one must be a government issued photo id, and one must have your current address. The last day to register to vote and be eligible to vote on March 20, 2012 is February 21, 2012. All registered voters in Lake County will be receiving new voter registration cards in November. These cards are mailed from the Lake County Clerk’s office and will include changes in voting precincts and districts. Several programs exist to assist voters away from the polls on election day: The Temporarily Absent Student program is designed for students away at school. The Snowbird Program is designed for those that are away from Cuba Township during the spring and/or fall elections with a permanent away address. The Permanent Voting by Mail Program is designed for those voters who chose to receive their ballots by mail instead of voting at the polls on election day. This service is available for all elections and remains in effect for every election unless cancelled. Registered voters can sign up for any of these voting programs at the Township office during regular business hours—Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
