CUBA TOWNSHIP

As the New Year begins, Cuba Township has a new face.  Our recently completed Community Room, now completes the east side of the Township office.  This space will house the Township monthly Board meetings, as well as provide space for the State of Illinois Early and Absentee voting program for Cuba Township residents.  The space will also be available for use by the public on a limited basis.  The Community Room will be ready for us by residents and not-for profit groups beginning March 1, 2008.  Please call the office for more information.  Additionally, please join your Cuba Township elected officials for an Open House in the Community Room, January 12, 2008.  See below for more details.

As the holiday season comes to a close, I want to extend my thanks to the Barrington community for the very generous donations made to our Food Pantry and to the Cuba Cares fund.  The list of donors is far too numerous to mention here, but I hope each and every one of you know the depth of gratitude from the Township as well as the many families and individuals that benefit from donations.

One group of donors to the Food Pantry that does merit special recognition is Barrington High School.  Code Red, The Math Department, Senior Class Board, Sophomore Class Board, the Girls’ Volleyball team and Student Council have all made significant contributions to the Food Pantry this season.  In addition to the donations, the students often sort and shelf the food, as well.  My thanks is extended to every student that has participated with a group and individually.  Additionally, I’d like to thank the teachers and staff of Barrington High School for the models of community service they demonstrate to their students.

While great quantities of food have been received in the food pantry, great quantities of food have gone out to many Township families and individuals.  Our General Assistance Coordinators Kate Formichella and Cheryl Tanaka have worked very hard to ensure that all who have indicated a need have received a holiday package from the food pantry.  To replenish the Food Pantry, please see the insert detailing our 7th annual Have a Heart Food Drive.  If you or someone you know could benefit from the Food Pantry, please call the Township office at (847) 381-1924.  All inquiries are confidential.

I send each of you the best for the New Year.  Please know that Cuba Township is here to serve you.  Don’t hesitate to contact us!
