Next year’s road and drainage projects are being reviewed now. Any input you would like to give, I’m happy to hear- please do call. Asphalt prices are continuing to escalate. We started this year buying asphalt at $28.00 per ton, then on August 1 it went to $38.00 a ton and is scheduled to increase during September as I write this, to $48.00 per ton. Obviously, with prices escalating like this we have to carefully review the costs of road resurfacing and schedule it in keeping with budget requirements. The end result is, a five year road replacement program will become eight years. There is no way around it, particularly if prices continue to escalate.
We are looking at some new methods of road paving and patching in an attempt to reduce costs. We need to be careful here— new technology is great but we need to be sure it will work and not fall apart prematurely. We will continue looking for ways to reduce costs- more on this in the winter issue. Rest assured, in these periods of escalating costs, we will continue our road paving and patching programs. We may well end up with better and more economical methodology.
Remember our other programs– Mulch deliveries end in October, but we begin giving away split oak firewood on Fridays- call for more info. We are able to accept paint cans through September. We always accept old tires and small electronics----all as part of our recycling program. Cookies are accepted at the garage during snow removal periods!
Come join us at our fall festival–we can talk about winter some more...........Remember it can be worse.......diesel fuel could go up to $20.00 a gallon and we could go back to horses to pull plows..........it would probably take a bit longer to clear the roads...............
