The unprecedented rains of late August have left an impact on many Township residents. I hope that all of you are safe and have recovered from the devastation of the storms. The Cuba Township Road District, under the direction of Highway Commissioner Tom Gooch, has spent many hours working to reduce the impact of the storms and ensure the safety of our residents. Please call the Township office at (847) 381-1924 or the Road District office at (847) 381-7793 with your concerns or questions. We will do our best to assist, if possible, or help facilitate a solution.
Our seasonal friends, the mosquitoes, have returned to the area. The rains in August have created an extremely difficult situation. As in years past, the Township has contracted with Clarke Mosquito to provide abatement for the Township in an effort to control the nuisance factor of mosquitoes and also curtail the health issues associated with their presence. Clarke staff can be seen throughout the Township doing pre-hatch control, inspecting standing water for breeding and applying larvicide treatments by helicopter. The Township will continue to direct Clarke to provide their services to the Township throughout the remainder of the mosquito season. Please call the Clarke mosquito hotline at 800-942-255 to report standing water or for information on treatments. For safety information and helpful tips to combat mosquitoes please go to www.cutterinsectrepellent.com.
As the seasons are changing, so, too, are things at Cuba Township. The Township building is undergoing an interior “facelift” as the office spaces are reconfigured to better accommodate our staff and enable them to better serve our taxpayers. The space will be redesigned to provide more privacy and create more efficient work space. Additionally, we will be adding a new Community Room, which will house the monthly Township board meetings and be available for public use. Please “pardon our dust” during the few months that we will be under construction. Regular office hours remain in effect– Monday through Friday 9 am to 3:30 pm. A notice of an open house to introduce our new and improved spaces will be announced in an upcoming newsletter.
As the number of our food pantry recipients continues to grow so do our donations to the food pantry. I am happy to report that our February Have a Heart food drive was again successful. My appreciation is extended to the Barrington Post Office for their support of the pantry through their May food drive. Additionally, the Barrington Breakfast Rotary re-stocked our shelves with $1000 of groceries. While donations to the food pantry are generally largest around the winter holidays, please know that our need for items continues year round. Your contribution of non-perishable, non-expired food items, toiletries and cleaning products are greatly appreciated. Additionally, gift certificates to grocery, discount stores and gas stations are also needed. Your donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday, 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Township office. Items for the pantry can also be brought to the Township 7th annual Fall Festival, Saturday, October 6th, noon– 4 pm. If you or someone you know, could benefit from the food pantry, please call the Township office at (847) 381-1924. All inquiries are confidential.
I hope you all will be able to join us for the 7th annual Cuba Township Fall Festival. This fun filled afternoon provides plenty for all ages to enjoy. On the grounds of The Grove, this Township property sits amidst century old oaks and is an prime example of the natural beauty of the Barrington area. October 6th– see you there! |
